Elly Jones

Elly Jones’ practice explores light, layers and transparency, recurring themes that reflect her interest in things that are both present and absent, memories, experiences and moments that linger beyond the original encounter.

Repetition and duplication also feature prominently in her work, often appearing through shadows and reflections. Her ideas frequently bring together mixed-media printmaking techniques with photography, layered papers and textiles, creating works that explore the relationship between image, memory and material.

Jones works with techniques including solar plate etching, using light to transfer subjects onto steel plates. The plates are then hand-inked and printed onto a variety of surfaces using an etching press. Each print is unique, with subtle variations arising from the tactile and individual nature of the hand-printing process.

Through this combination of light, imagery and layered materials, Jones creates work that invites the viewer to consider what is seen, what is remembered, and what remains just beyond view.
