Born and raised in Redditch, West Midlands, Robin Pugh studied Fine Art at Bath School of Art before spending much of his career living and working in Birmingham. Following a brief period painting for Damien Hirst, Robin is now based in Eryri (Snowdonia), North Wales, where the landscape and wildlife of his adopted home have become a central inspiration for his work.

Robin’s more recent work responds directly to the landscape of Eryri. Using stones and slate gathered from the mountains, rivers, and valleys around him as a canvas, he creates detailed studies of local birds, contrasting the delicacy of each subject with the rugged textures and deep history held within the stone.

His latest series, This Land, explores the hills, valleys, and skies of Eryri, developed through quiet walks and close observation of the landscape. These paintings reflect Robin’s enduring fascination with place, nature, and the relationship between the land and the creatures that inhabit it.
