Penelope Timmis

“Colour and movement are what I look for in all that I see around me and I hope are reflected in my paintings.”

Penelope Timmis was born in 1956 and lives on her farm in South Shropshire. She studied at the Froebel Institute in Roehampton and in Shrewsbury. After taking time away from painting to raise her family, she returned to her artistic practice seriously approximately nine years ago.
Since then, Timmis has exhibited widely through solo and joint exhibitions and has built a strong reputation for her work, selling regularly both locally and further afield. Now an established painter in the region, she exhibits throughout Wales and the West of England.

Her achievements include winning Best Entry at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) in 2009 and being shortlisted for the Daily Mail’s Not the Turner Prize in 2004. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), Timmis is also committed to supporting her local community and charitable causes, including Shelter Cymru, through art auctions. She has also presented an exhibition in support of The Prince’s Trust.

More recently, Timmis was elected an Associate of the Birmingham Society of Arts and an Associate of the Society of Women Artists, further recognising her contribution and standing within the contemporary art community.
