Jan Gardner

Jan Gardner was born and brought up in North Wales, where the light, space, and colours of the surrounding landscape first shaped her artistic vision. Memories of the hills, lanes, and special places of her early years, together with experiences from her travels through Europe, Morocco, and the USA, continue to inspire her vivid and atmospheric paintings.

Jan’s work explores the deep connection between land, sea, sky, and the natural world. Through expressive colour, texture, and mark-making, she creates emotional responses to both real and imagined places, capturing the atmosphere, energy, and memories held within landscapes.

A lifelong commitment to her practice has seen Jan work across teaching, arts in health, residencies, and exhibitions throughout the UK and internationally. She returned to Wales with her family in 2001 and has since continued to develop her distinctive approach to painting.

Jan’s paintings are an intuitive exploration of colour, memory, and emotion, each piece building through layers of paint and gesture to create a sense of place that connects the viewer with the natural world.
