Julian Brown

We always have a large array of mounted prints available in the gallery.

Born in 1960 to artist and art teacher parents, Julian Brown developed an early connection to painting and the expressive possibilities of art. His fascination with emotion and the natural world has continued to evolve throughout his life, alongside a career as a semi-retired educational psychologist.

Now based in the mountains of Snowdonia, Julian draws much of his inspiration from the dramatic landscapes that surround him. His vibrant, atmospheric paintings seek to capture not simply the appearance of a place, but its energy, movement and emotional character.

Working across a range of media, Julian responds intuitively to the changing elements and the wild beauty of the landscape. His work reflects a deep affection for the places he paints and a desire to communicate something of the experience of being within them.

“When someone says they can see the wind in my painting, I’m happy.”
